Scottsdale Teens on a Mission for Progress - STOMP!

Senior With Teen

STOMP is an eligibility-based program designed to assist qualifying elderly/disabled Scottsdale residents with home improvement projects that help them meet Scottsdale property maintenance requirements.  On a one-time basis, teens work under the supervision of a staff member and perform work such as landscaping, general exterior home maintenance and painting, to address the code violation or to improve the neighborhood environment.

One significant component of STOMP is the initial home visit.  A social services professional accompanies the STOMP coordinator to assess the home environment as well as the work to be performed.  The homeowner is connected with other assistance programs that would have otherwise gone unidentified and staff develops an ongoing supportive relationship.

Once the home visit has been completed, and the homeowner has been qualified, the STOMP coordinator schedules the work to be done.  This includes scheduling the employees, contacting contractors as needed, and notifying referring parties.

STOMP provides an important service to seniors and to people with disabilities who need assistance on code enforcement issues but do not have the financial or physical resources to address them, while providing teens with job training, skill building and employment.
