Community Workshop and 2nd Birthday Celebration

The Northeast Valley Coalition Against Methamphetamine will be celebrating its second birthday at a community workshop on Wednesday, May 21 at the Scottsdale Community College, Student Center, Turquoise Room located at 9000 E. Chaparral Road in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.


The meeting will include a celebration of Coalition successes over the past two years, an update on outcomes from the April 15 Crystal Darkness event from Phoenix Police Commander Chris Crockett, and a panel discussion with recovering methamphetamine addicts.


There will be a continental networking breakfast from 7:30 to 8 a.m. The program will begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude by 9:30 a.m.


The Coalition held its initial meeting in April 2006 and has since grown to over 100 members in the seven northeast valley communities. The Coalition has

  • hosted 16 community workshops on various impacts of methamphetamine use averaging over 40 participants
  • held four identity theft document shredding events with over 150 participants each to educate residents about the relationship between methamphetamine use and identity theft
  • distributed 1,500 “Stop Meth Use” gel ink pens to help reduce check fraud
  • created and distributed over 45,000 copies of a methamphetamine-specific resource directory
  • held two youth summits attracting over 750 participants and a parent town hall with 120 participants
  • The Coalition is funded by grants from the Arizona Governor’s Office and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
