2007 Year-End Update
Currently over 100 members have joined the Coalition’s efforts, which is led by an eleven-member steering committee of representatives from communities, schools, and community organizations.
In September 2007, the Governor's Office recognized the Coalition for innovative solutions to the problem of methamphetamine use.
Key efforts to date:
Steering Committee
- Completed community needs assessment and strategic planning process (March 2007). Currently working on Sustainability Plan (March 2008).
- Hosted 15 community workshops averaging 40 participants to present information about various impacts of methamphetamine use (April 2006 - Sept. 2007). Next community workshop is scheduled for Feb. 28, 2008 from 7:45 - 9:30 a.m. at the Mustang Library Auditorium Center in Scottsdale.
- Conducted two identity theft document shredding events in Scottsdale (Oct. 2007) and Fountain Hills (Nov. 2007) with a total of 550 participants. The next event is planned for Jan. 2008 in Paradise Valley.
- Prepared a resource directory for those impacted by meth (Oct. 2007). Currently going to print and will be distributed in Jan. 2008.
- Partnered with Cox Communications
and Scottsdale Unified School District on two youth summits in Oct. and Nov. 2007 attracting over 750 participants.
- Created Youth Advisory Committee to gain input and host an anti-meth video contest.
- Hosting a Parent Town Hall in April 2008.
