Each year the city and the Green Building Advisory Committee host "Design Day", a free home improvement event designed to give residents within the city’s revitalization area the opportunity to meet with volunteer architects and landscape and interior design specialists, to discuss home renovations and landscape redesigns.
In addition to those who register to meet with a professional designer, all area residents are invited to attend the event to browse information tables and talk to representatives of city departments (such as Planning, Water Conservation, Historic Preservation, and the Green Building Program) and local non-profits (Habitat for Humanity, Stardust Building Supply and the University of Arizona Master Gardener’s Program).

New this year will be free 45-minute programs on subjects related to remodeling, design, water conservation and green building, and free guided tours of the Granite Reef Senior Center building—the city’s premier Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified, green building.
Design Day 2008 is sponsored by the City of Scottsdale and Scottsdale's Green Building Advisory Committee with the goal of helping citizens in the city’s revitalization area to remodel their homes and renovate or install landscaping using environmentally friendly, energy efficient and sound design principles that enhance the character of existing neighborhoods while successfully accommodating today's lifestyles.
Design professionals who wish to contribute their time and expertise providing no-cost consultations at this event should contact J. Melton at jmelton@scottsdaleaz.gov for more information.
