Keep Scottsdale Beautiful 2009

Scottsdale residents are invited to join forces with the City of Scottsdale’s Pride Commission to take part in Keep Scottsdale Beautiful 2009. Keep Scottsdale Beautiful is part of the nation’s largest community improvement program sponsored by Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup. Annually from March 1 Through May 31, an estimated 3 million volunteers across the country work to beautify and improve their communities. Help us make a difference by organizing your own beautification project or participating in those listed below.

Neighborhood Improvement/Cleanup – March 1 – May 31

During “Neighborhood Cleanup”” residents are encouraged to organize a cleanup project such as alley beautification, yard landscaping, home repair or litter pick-ups. Citizens can register their neighborhood clean up project with the Scottsdale Pride Commission and receive city recognition.  If you are interested in reserving a free roll- off and access to our tool trailer stocked full of tools, contact 312-3111.

Scottsdale Arts Festival – March 20-22

Scottsdale’s Pride Commission and the Center for the Arts have teamed up in an effort to educate and create awareness of cigarette butt litter in Scottsdale. Youth of all ages are invited to create artwork depicting, “smelly, stinkin’, smokin’, stuff” Participant art work will be displayed during the event and prizes will be awarded. Earth Day - April 18

Every day is earth day! Environmental stewardship is everybody’s responsibility. Be part of the solution not the problem. Everyday, show your stewardship by doing something good for the Earth. Check out some of Eco Gecko’s stewardship tips!

  • Carpool, take the bus, walk, ride a bike or driven an alternate fuel vehicle.
  • Properly dispose of any unused paints and chemicals.
  • Attend local environmental events
  • Install low flow faucets, shower heads and toilet tank devices.

Adopt-a-Road ~ Scottsdale Clean & Scenic - October 24, 2009

Residents/businesses that have already adopted a road are encouraged to do their litter pick up this day. Those residents/businesses that are interested in cleaning an “orphaned” road can also do so this day. 

Electronics Recycling Collection Drop-off Day – May 9

Electronics have revolutionized our lifestyle with computers, radios, telephones, and cell phones. However, they also make up the bulk of electronics that threaten the environment, because of the dangerous elements in them. Recycling and reuse of these electronic items prevent them from reaching landfills, which help to create less waste, and provide usable items to organizations that need them and recapture valuable resources.

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED

No discarded light bulbs will be accepted.

Air Conditioners, Can Openers, Coffee Pots, Microwaves, Stoves & Ovens, Refrigerators, Washers & Dryers and Hot Water Heaters.

No commercial materials will be accepted. Collection events are ONLY for residents of Scottsdale. Please be prepared to show proof of residency in the form of a picture I.D. and, either a City utility bill or a rent receipt.
