Funding To Scottsdale
How Much Funding Will The City Receive?The City may receive funds through three channels: direct formula funding from the federal government, competitive grants from the federal government and competitive grants from the State of Arizona (using the funds they received from ARRA). The total amount the City will receive is unknown at this time.
Funding from ARRA will be used primarily for a variety of capital, maintenance, and infrastructure projects throughout the City of Scottsdale. The City will continue work to efficiently allocate resources from ARRA so that funded projects and initiatives have the greatest positive impact on our community.
Where Will That Money Go?
Scottsdale Council-Approved ARRA Funding to Date:
- Public Safety: The Scottsdale City Court will receive $9,500 through Byrne-JAG formula grants to be used for an automatic phone messaging system.
- Community Development: The City will receive $312,961 in direct funding through Community Development Block Grants to be used for ADA Renovations at Eldorado Ballpark.
- Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: The City will receive $2,431,500 from the Energy Efficiency Block Grants to be used for LED roadway lighting retrofits, water campus blower replacements, a citywide facility energy audit, and a community energy audit program.
- Transportation: The City will receive a total of $5,921,966 from the MAG area Sub-Allocation funds to be used for the Scottsdale Road streetscape project and the crosscut canal project, with remaining funds going to mill and overlay of streets. The City will also receive a total of $5,000,000 from ARRA Federal Transit funds to be used for the park and ride project at Scottsdale Road and the Loop 101. In addition, the City also will receive $450,000 from the Transportation Enhancement grant to be used for the Crosscut canal project and downtown canal bank improvements.

Public Safety: The Scottsdale Police Department has applied for $400,273 as part of a joint application with other jurisdictions to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program to be used for the East Valley Interoperable Intercept project.
- Fire Station Construction Grants: The Scottsdale Fire Department has applied for $9,000,000 from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Fire Station Construction Grants to assist in the construction of two Scottsdale fire stations. The proposed fire station construction sites include a site at the southwest corner of Eldorado Park (Miller Road, south of Granada Road) and the Cactus Acre Fire Station located on the northwest corner of Cactus Road and 96th Street.
Update: October 2009 -- The City of Scottsdale was notified that it will not be receiving grant awards for Fire Station Construction.
- Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: The Scottsdale Public Works Department applied for $823,272 to the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Clean Diesel Assistance Program to be used for the purchase of 12 CNG powered refuse trucks. In addition, The Public Works Department, together with the Clean Cities Coalition and other jurisdictions applied for $956,844 to Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Transportation Sector Petroleum Reduction Technologies Program to be used for the purchase of 9 CNG powered refuse trucks and installation of alternative fuel infrastructure citywide.
Update: August 2009 -- The City of Scottsdale was notified that it will not be receiving grant awards for the National Clean Diesel Assistance Program or the Clean Cities Transportation Sector Petroleum Reduction Technologies Program. - Total ARRA Dollars Applied for to Date: $11,180,389

While the City has not received any funding yet, it expects to receive the first increments of funding this summer.
