The McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission has developed a draft Commercial Permitting
System with the assistance of potential commercial operators and others with an interest
in the subject. The permit system is being reviewed and potentially will ultimately
be submitted to the city Council for consideration and action. The permit system
contemplates allowing commercially run passive recreational activities to occur in the
Preserve that are considered consistent with the objectives, management, rules and
regulations of the Preserve. The focus is to allow commercial activities that will
benefit residents and the tourism industry while maintaining the integrity of the Preserve
by moderating and regulating use through an adaptive management plan.
