Vacation Watch Request

This long standing service allows residents to request Police Officers drive by their home to check when they are on vacation. There is no guarantee officers will be able to check the home each day and is subject to department priority calls for service.

Request needs to be submitted 48-72 hours prior to start of Vacation Watch.

By asking for a Vacation Watch residents are requesting that police officers drive by their home to perform a limited check of their home that is visible from the street while they are on vacation. There is no guarantee that officers will be able to check the home each day and performance of such checks are subject to officer availability and priority calls for service. Also by requesting a Vacation Watch, the requester(s) on behalf of themselves, their heirs, personal representatives, successors and assigns, hereby agrees to release any and all claims, demands, causes of action of any kind, known or unknown, real or imagined, they may have against the City of Scottsdale, its elected, appointed and administrative officers, police officers, employees, agents, contractors, representatives and volunteers arising from the performance of a vacation check or the failure to perform a vacation check. It is understood that this is a full and final release and discharge of the requester(s)’claims, including claims for costs and attorney’s fees, if any, all demands and causes of action, present or future, known or unknown, real or imagined, developed or undeveloped and in any way arising out of the facts of the requested vacation check. Please note that while the City will attempt to safeguard information relating to vacation checks, some or/all information surrounding vacation check may need to the released to third parties pursuant to Arizona's Public Records Laws.

Tips Before you Leave

  • Set inside lights on timers and outside lights on dusk to dawn sensors.
  • Leave a radio on a timer during the day on a talk station to create the impression that someone is home.
  • Never leave a key outside under a rock or on the porch where someone could find it.
  • Arm the security system when you’re away.
  • Ask family or a trusted neighbor to remove all papers, flyers, etc. from the house to avoid the house appearing unoccupied.
  • Hold/forward the mail and hold the newspaper if gone for extended periods of time.
