Sit-Ups

The physical fitness assessment consists of a 1.5 mile run, push-ups and sit-ups. You must be able to complete a minimum of 19 push-ups (recently revised to reflect no time limit) and 28 sit-ups within one minute, and complete the 1.5 mile run in under 14:18 minutes without stopping or walking any portion.

The overall fitness test encompasses use of a gymnasium floor and outdoor running track. For safety reasons, the use of all forms of music devices is prohibited during the testing process.

The physical demands of the position require applicants to be in good heath. Individuals should consult with a medical or health professional before beginning any new exercise, nutrition, or supplementation program or if any personal health questions arise after reviewing the contents of this guide.

These physical performance requirements are set at the minimum to pass the City of Scottsdale testing process. The overall fitness test encompasses use of a gymnasium floor and outdoor running track. For safety reasons, the use of all forms of music devices is prohibited during the testing process. 

If you are given a conditional job offer, you must pass a re-fitness test.  The re-fitness tests consists of a 3-mile run, push-ups and sit-ups.  You must be able to again complete a minimum of 19 push-ups (recently revised to reflect no time limit) and 28 sit-ups within one minute; however, the length of the run increases to 3 miles and must be completed in under 29:40 minutes without stopping or walking any portion.

If you successfully complete the entire testing process and are selected to attend the academy, these performance requirements will need to be improved significantly in order to pass the academy.
