What is it?
The City of Scottsdale Streets Master Plan determines where new streets may be needed over the next 10 to 20 years and where existing streets may need to be improved.
Where does it apply?
Citywide
Who needs to use it?
City Council, Transportation Commission, City transportation and long-range planning staff, Developers, Businesses, and Residents.
Why was it developed?
The Streets Master Plan builds on the policy groundwork laid by the Mobility Element in the city’s 2001 General Plan; It provides the detailed streets information needed to implement the broad recommendations of the General Plan.
Key Points:
- The street classification map in this plan replaces the street plan map from the 1991 General Plan Circulation Element (The General Plan was consolidated into one document and reprinted in 1999).
- Enhances day-to-day decision-making by refining the broad street categories used in the General Plan into specific street classifications.
- Users of the plan get a preview of what the Scottsdale street network might look like at build-out.
- Explains how streets are classified and how the functional classifications of streets are used to plan the city’s street network.
- The design guides for street cross-sections in the plan do not set construction standards but do dictate the general guidelines and definition of the street classification system.
- Cross-sections designed for rural and environmentally sensitive areas of the city permit flexibility in the application of street classifications.
- Explains what the “expandable roadways” concept is and how using it benefits street projects.
- Demonstrates how the street network can accommodate the needs of a multi-modal transportation system.
