Volunteers

Do you want to be a steward  and protect our beautiful Sonoran Desert? Do you want to share your knowledge of our special environment? If yes, then Pinnacle Peak has a variety volunteer opportunities available to you!

How to apply

Print and fill out the city's volunteer application (PDF). Please contact the park staff at 480-312-0990 for information on the application process.  Applications are accepted at the beginning of August and training will begin in October.

Training Requirements

Each fall, new volunteers are required to partake in an extensive training regimen. Courses cover a variety of helpful information including Sonoran Desert flora and fauna, law enforcement, two-way radio procedures, communicating effectively, basic first aid, fire safety, area geology, Hohokam and area history.

Activities

Trail Rovers Answer visitor questions along the trail. Make certain that visitors are staying on the trail.
Interpretive Leaders Lead interpretive tours along the trail and discuss a variety of topics including desert plants, animals and history.
Trail Sweepers Make certain that all trail users exit when the park closes.
Trail Maintenance

Help repair and improve the trail.

Administration Stationed at the trailhead office, you will answer visitor questions and distribute park brochures and maps.

NOTE: The evening trail closure routine begins on the west end of the park one hour prior to the posted closing time. If you are not at the end of the trail one hour prior to closing, you will need to turn around when you meet the trail rangers.
