Off Leash Areas

There are three City of Scottsdale Parks that offer an Off Leash Area so dogs can run in a fenced area.

CHAPARRAL PARK

Chaparral Park's Off Leash Area (5401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ  85250) is 4 acres with 3 acres of grass.   Please call (480) 312-2353 or (480) 312-WOOF (9663) to find out about Chaparral’s Off Leash Area’s status (e.g., open or not due to rain, maintenance, etc.).  


Hours of Operation*

November 1 - April 30  6:00AM - 10PM.  

May 1 - October 31  5:30AM - 10PM

* All areas will be closed when wet conditions exist.
** In the event of frost, the park will not open at sunrise.
Activity on frosty grass causes damage to and may kill the rye grass.

Lights will be on from dusk to 10pm.


Weekly Maintenance Closures

The Off-Leash Area will experience weekly maintenance closures for mowing and irrigation work. These closures will occur on:
Tuesdays - 8 a.m. to Noon
Fridays - 8 a.m. to Noon

Off Leash User Areas

The Off-Leash Area is divided into three separate sections:
• Sections will be rotated to allow for maintenance and turf repair.
• One section will always be closed for maintenance and turf restoration.
• Two sections will be open the majority of the time with one area designated for Active dogs and another for Passive dogs.

Amenities

The new Off-Leash Area includes turf areas, seating, play features and water fountains
Patrons may bring additional portable chairs, which must be removed when they leave.

Patrons may bring tennis balls/toys but they must be removed by the owner or staff will remove them.

Horizon Park

Horizon Park's Off Leash Area (15444 N. 100th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260) is 2/3 of an acre, with a 10x20 foot shade structure, a people/dog drinking fountain and a push button dust control feature that waters the area to keep the dust down. There are no lights yet.Weekly Maintenance Closures

Thursdays - 9:30 a.m. to 12:30pm

Vista Del Camino Park

Vista del Camino Park's Off Leash Area (7700 E. Roosevelt Street, Scottsdale, AZ  85257) is a ½ acre with shade trees, benches and doggie water fountain.  The entry is double gated for you and your pet's safety.  It is located off of Pierce and Hayden - go west on Pierce into parking lot and dog park is on the north side of the parking lot.

Rules

  • Owners or custodians of a dog are responsible and legally liable for the acts and conduct of the dog at all times when the dog is in a city park.
  • Dog behavior can be unpredictable particularly around other dogs and strangers.
  • The City does not supervise use of the Off Leash Area and anyone using the area does so at his/her own risk.
  • No more than two dogs per visitor.
  • An adult must accompany youth under the age of 16.
  • Bag and dispose of your pet’s waste using canisters provided.
  • Aggressive or anti-social behaving dogs must be removed from the park immediately. All dog attacks should be immediately reported to the
  • Maricopa County Animal Care & Control leavingcos at (602) 506-7387.
  • Female dogs in heat are not permitted in the exercise area.
  • All dogs must be currently licensed and vaccinated. Puppies under the age of 4 months are not allowed in the park until they have had their license and vaccinations.
  • Dogs should be under voice control.
  • Please fill any hole your dog digs.
  • No food or alcoholic beverages allowed in the exercise area.
  • Owners or custodians of a dog must restrain and control the dog at all times with a leash of not more than 6 feet in length when outside of the dog exercise area.
  • Anyone failing to comply with the rules will be asked to leave the Off Leash Area by City Staff.
