The current Villa Monterey Golf Course property is being converted into an open space park by the City of Scottsdale. The future open space park will be called Camelback Park and is located on both sides of Hayden Road between Camelback and Chaparral roads. Vicinity Map (PDF / 265KB / 1 pg). It will be 37 acres.
About the Project
A Groundbreaking Ceremony (PDF/993kb/1p) is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2008, at noon.
The city has completed design to convert this former golf course to an open space public park and is now proceeding with the construction. The anticipated improvements will be consistent with the zoning and existing use restrictions. Plans include components such as a new multi-use path with connections to existing multi-use path segments, turf areas, a new irrigation system with a new pump and enclosure, improvements to one of the existing ponds, and infilling of some of the existing ponds.
Project Budget
The total project budget is $3.5 million. A total of $200,000 was budgeted for the acquisition of the property. Much of the renovation cost will be consumed by a new irrigation system, as well as grading work and a multi-use path.
