Interpretive ToursPinnacle Peak Astronomy

Discover the Sonoran Desert!  Guided Interpretive Tours are offered every Tuesday to Sunday from November to April.  Participants will learn interesting facts about the park flora and fauna, Hohokam history, and park geology while hiking to the Grandview Lookout area, where the tour ends.  Tours begin at 10:00 a.m. and last approximately two hours.  Be prepared to hike portions of steep, rocky trail at a leisurely pace with many stops along the way.  Wear comfortable outdoor clothing, hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and carry plenty of water.

Tours are not offered during inclement weather, holidays or holiday weekends.

Days Offered: Tuesday - Sunday during the months of November through March.
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Duration: 2 hours
Distance Covered: Approximately 1.5 mile
Difficulty Level: Moderate
Registration Required: No (tour is limited to 20 participants)

Full Moon Hikes

Join staff and volunteers on a guided walk to the Grandview area as the moon rises. This cool evening hike will include a starlight night and chance to be in the park after hours.  Program duration is approximately 1.5 hours and 1.5 mile of moderate hiking.

Registration is required, and will begin one week prior to the date.

Astronomy Evenings

Enjoy a beautiful desert evening under the stars and learn about some of the objects visible in the night sky.  A short talk explaining interesting facts about the solar system and the galaxy around the planet earth is followed by observing the moon, several planets, multiple star systems, globular clusters and nebulae through a celestron telescope.  Beginners are welcome and the explanation will be kept at a novice level.  No hiking is required for this very special event. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and a small penlight flashlight for this outdoor event.  Program duration is approximately 1.5 hours.
