Scottsdale earned the 2017 Voice of the People Award for Excellence in Economy, national recognition for communities that earn the highest ratings among communities participating in the National Citizen Survey.
Scottsdale last conducted the survey in November and December 2016. Results show that city residents rated 7 of 8 aspects of “economy” higher than national benchmarks, and they feel that economy is one of the most important facets of community livability.
“Scottsdale’s business environment continues to amaze me – it’s a cornerstone of our success,” said Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane. “If you are looking for a place that supports and encourages business of all types and sizes because of the positive impact they have on an entire community, I don’t believe there’s a better place than Scottsdale.”
Developing and implementing a comprehensive economic development strategy is among six priorities adopted by the Scottsdale City Council. With that foundation, the city’s economic development department carries out initiatives to strengthen Scottsdale’s business environment, hosts programs and provides resources for small businesses and entrepreneurs, and collaborates with regional partners like the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and Arizona Commerce Authority.

About the Voice of the People Awards
The Voice of the People Awards stand alone as the only award given in local government based on community opinion. The perspectives of the residents themselves determine nominees for the very best of Community Engagement, Safety, Mobility, Foundations of Livability, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment, Natural Environment, Built Environment and Economy. Of the communities that participated in The National Citizen Survey in 2016, winners and finalists for Excellence in these categories received the highest overall levels of satisfaction from residents.
Now running nine years, the Voice of the People Awards are presented by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and National Research Center.
