HEADLINES

Mark your calendar for Desert Discovery Center meetings. Here are opportunities to learn about the proposed center: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The same material will be presented at both sessions.

Parks and Recreation fall class registration begins Monday. Classes offer affordable prices, experienced instructors, and convenient times and locations. Choose from a wide range of classes. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Monday, July 31, for residents and 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, for nonresidents.

EVENTS

Celebrate a Scottsdale original - ArtWalk. This free event takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday in Downtown Scottsdale. Sample the area's great restaurants and museums. Free trolley and horse-drawn carriage rides make getting around easy.

Fight the bite - from mosquitoes. One West Nile death has been reported in Maricopa County. Help eliminate and prevent mosquitoes from breeding by following these simple tips.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park closed for maintenance, Aug. 7-11. Enhancements include painting many outdoor shade structures, deep cleaning public facilities, repairing trains and making several other improvements. The park will reopen at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.  

Buyers beware: Consumer Reports available for free on library website. This publication has unbiased product reviews - everything from toothbrushes to washing machines.

Kids invited to learn "FUNdamentals" of water sports, July 31-Aug. 4. McDowell Mountain Ranch offers an exhilarating sports camp Monday-Friday, July 31-Aug. 4. Participants will learn the "FUNdamentals" of different water sports including swimming, diving, water polo and water basketball.

Donate business attire to Vista del Camino's Career Closet. In August, Scottsdale libraries will be collecting professional clothing and toiletries to assist those returning to the workforce. Drop off items at any library branch.

Learn how to create engaging, relevant marketing. Discover the secrets of selling your products and services without being overt. This free class is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, in Civic Center Library's Eureka Loft.
