Deadline extended to Dec. 31 for Scottsdale flag design. The city is seeking design concepts for a new city flag through an open design challenge. Scottsdale hopes a new flag will become an immediately recognizable symbol of the proud and accomplished desert community known around the world for its blend of western heritage, natural beauty and modern art and culture. Designs may be submitted via the city's website or during business hours at any Scottsdale Public Library.
Support Scottsdale Cares at Holiday Lights, tonight. Scottsdale Cares supports a variety of social service agencies that, in turn, assist thousands of Scottsdale residents. City staff will be on-site at Holiday Lights from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, providing refreshments and activities and collecting donations. Those not attending the event can still donate to Scottsdale Cares.

Holiday Lights continues through Jan. 7. Festivities take place from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly, with just a few exceptions, at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Help Scottsdale Police name new crisis response K9. After the passing of K9 Fozzie, Zona Labradors donated an 11-month-old English Chocolate Labrador to the department. The new dog will comfort crime victims and witnesses and serve as a goodwill ambassador. Cast your vote for one of five nominated names. Voting closes at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11.
Pancake breakfast fundraiser to assist Scottsdale Historical Museum. Proceeds from the breakfast will go toward the repair and restoration of the museum and its collection. A flood from a broken water pipe caused the damage. The event runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Scottsdale Historical Museum. The suggested donation is $20 a person.

Craft Beer 101, Wednesday. Join Andrew Bauman from Uncle Bear's Brewhouse and Grill as he shares the story of this popular beverage. Included will be info on beer through the ages, styles of beer and trends in brewing. Sorry, no tastings. The free program takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the Mustang Library Auditorium.
Via Linda Senior Center art show draws gallery-caliber talent, Dec. 15. Artwork students and instructors will be on display at a reception starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the center. Free Downtown Cultural Trolley Tours showcase city's rich past, exciting future. Free Cultural Trolley Tours take place at 10:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month. Participants will tour the Old Mission and then board a trolley for a two-hour guided tour of the arts district, Civic Center campus, Hotel Valley Ho and the Waterfront.
