Mayor's Constitution Day Contest showcases American pride. Students are invited to commemorate the signing of the Constitution by submitting art/video or an essay to the Mayor's Office. Prizes will be awarded in both categories for various age groups. Deadline is Sunday, Sept. 17.

City provides appliance and/or move-in box pickup. Solid Waste crews provide a one-time pickup to haul away move-in boxes for residential collection customers who just moved into a single-family home. We'll also pick up appliances that you no longer want. Get details.

EVENTS

Senior center hosts Senior Prom - An Evening Under the Sea. This underwater-themed dance includes live entertainment, refreshments and all styles of dancing. The event is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Granite Reef Senior Center. Cost is $5 for residents, and registration is required.

New water conservation rebates available. Scottsdale Water has rebate incentives to help you reduce indoor and outdoor water use, decrease salinity in our wastewater and save money. Get applications and requirements.

Learn about latest efforts to promote Downtown Scottsdale. The city's Tourism and Events Department and Experience Scottsdale will provide updates on the latest marketing and advertising efforts to promote Downtown Scottsdale to both visitors and locals. Two identical presentations will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Via Linda Senior Center hosts third annual Table Tennis Tournament, this Saturday. This year's tournament will have both recreational and competitive levels of play. Space is limited and registration is required - call 480-312-5810.

Scottsdale Water offers free water efficiency classes. Learn how to plant and maintain a beautiful, water-efficient landscape by attending Scottsdale Water's water efficiency workshops. The free classes take place at the Civic Center Library and the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden at Chaparral Park.
