The City Council established the Historic Preservation Commission to oversee the development and management of Scottsdale's Historic Preservation Program.
The program focuses on increasing public awareness of Scottsdale's heritage; identifying historic and cultural resources; designating and recognizing significant local resources; and assisting in protecting, preserving and enhancing the best examples of Scottsdale's past

At this time, the Historic Preservation Commission is actively engaged in identifying and designating historic post World War II resources in Scottsdale. The Commission works with City staff to identify the best examples of 1950s neighborhoods that can tell the story of postwar (World War II) subdivisions in Scottsdale. At this time, two post World War II neighborhoods are listed on the City Historic Register: Town and Country Scottsdale and Village Grove 1-6. To view the register listing for these neighborhoods, see the Historic Register . The Commission continues to explore the possibility of listing more post World War II neighborhoods. Additionally, the Commission and City staff worked to identify the best examples of post World War II multifamily projects built between 1946 and 1965 that reflect this important period of Scottsdale history. The Scottsdale Historic Preservation Commission plans to place significant buildings and/or collections of this property type on the Scottsdale Historic Register in 2007.
