Construction is coming back and green buildings are on the rise. At this month’s lecture, you’ll hear how a formerly failed subdivision and stagnant construction site was transformed into a green, solar-powered residential community. The result is the only green subdivision in the United States that meets the National Green Building Standard Gold level, ENERGY STAR v3, EPA WaterSense and Indoor Air Plus certifications while demonstrating up to 70 percent energy use reduction over a traditional new home. You’ll also hear about a new custom low energy home approaching “Net Zero Energy”. This home’s energy is supplied with a 5kW PV array, solar hot water system, advanced HVAC system, unique roof/ceiling insulated and ventilated assembly, triple pane windows and doors with integral insulated blinds, autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) walls, dual pipe graywater drainage for irrigation and rainwater harvesting with underground storage. Finally, you’re learn about a foreclosed ranch style home that was transformed into an energy efficient and green certified remodel under the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) National Green Building Standard.
