Energy Efficiency Idea Guide for Arizona
Energy efficiency creates jobs that are primarily local. Additionally, it reduces cash outflow from the economy by reducing fuel imports while making locally-produced goods and services more competitive in the marketplace. However, many barriers limit energy efficiency’s true potential. The goal of the Energy Efficiency Idea Guide is to provide policymakers and stakeholders a quick-read of forty-six ideas for potential policies, programs and initiatives that can increase the adoption of energy efficiency in the built environment in Arizona. It is intended to spark the beginning of conversations between stakeholders, not to be the definitive resource with all the answers set in stone. https://asunews.asu.edu/20130423_energyguide
Scottsdale adopts the 2012 Energy and Green Construction Codes
On December 4, 2012, Scottsdale City Council adopted the 2012 suite of building codes including the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and International Green Construction Code (IgCC). The IgCC will serve as compliance mechanism for the city’s voluntary Commercial Green Building Program. However, the IgCC will become mandatory as part of the planning approval process when development bonuses are granted for floor area, building height or density. This significant step makes it easier for developers of commercial and multi-family housing to be green certified by addressing summer heat island mitigation, transportation impact mitigation, resource efficient building materials, energy efficiency, water efficient plumbing systems, indoor pollutant control, mechanical equipment sound mitigation and daylighting. The new code provides flexibility to adapt to Scottsdale’s geographic conditions and environmental quality of life while promoting uniformity of performance criteria from city to city. By fully integrating the green code into the city’s plan review and inspection process, green certification is streamlined and a Green Certificate of Occupancy is issued following the final building inspection ...read more

Municipal Green Building Policies Report: Strategies for Transforming Building Practices in the Private Sector
The past few years have seen a tremendous surge in municipal green building policies. A growing number of local governments recognize that changing building practices is important not only for conserving scarce natural resources and preventing pollution, but also for improving health and productivity and achieving economic sustainability. This report reviews more than 30 municipal policies that aim to advance green building in the private sector by (1) establishing mandatory green building criteria;(2) providing expedited review as an incentive for green building; or (3) offering other direct financial incentives for green building, including grants, fee waivers, tax breaks, and bonus development - for more information go to:
