What’s New
The final March 13, 2012 Special Election results as reported by Maricopa County for City of Scottsdale Proposition 430 - Scottsdale General Plan 2011 - included a YES vote of 48.02% versus a NO vot of 51.98%. Consequently, the Scottsdale General Plan 2011 was not ratified by voters.
Based on the outcome of the March 2012 Special Election, the City of Scottsdale General Plan 2001 remains in effect until such time that a new General Plan is approved by the voters.

Phase 1: Data Collection and Analysis (2009)
Initial stages of the process include reviewing related studies, plans, policies, and existing conditions. From this comes the development of a background report.

Phase 2: Community Engagement and Drafting of Plan
(September - December 2009)
In this phase, extensive public outreach is initiated. Staff will be attending civic and community meetings to provide information about the update. A survey will also be distributed to reaffirm the city vision and values. All of the information gathered to date is compiled and a draft plan is created based upon that data and public input.

Phase 3: General Plan Working Group
(January - September 2010)
A board and commission working group will be formed to review the draft 2011 General Plan.

Phase 4: Draft Plan Releae and Public Outreach
(November 2010 - April 2011)
The draft 2011 General Plan is available for public comment. Staff will present at civic, community, and Board and Commission meetings to gather public input about the draft plan.

Phase 5: Public Hearing Process and Public Outreach
(April - October 2011)
The 2011 General Plan will go through the major General Plan amendment process for tentative Council adoption. The six month process includes extensive outreach along with Planning Commission and City Council hearings.

Phase 6: Voter Ratification (March 2012)
Per State Statute, the General Plan must be placed on the ballot to be ratified by the voters.
