Emergency Preparedness - Pet Information

If you need to evacuate, it's important to take your pet with you when practical. Do not compromise the safety of your family. However, leaving pets behind is not normally the best action. But pets cannot always go with you to emergency shelters.

Plan ahead

  • All your pets should have identification tags and a collar.
  • Contact hotels outside your immediate area and ask about policies.
  • Keep the list in a safe place.
  • If you are under a disaster warning, keep your pets inside with you so you don't have to look for them in case you need to evacuate.


Pet Supplies

  • Pet food and treats.
  • Drinkable water in plastic bottles.
  • Non-electrical can opener for canned food.
  • Pet medications and medical records in a water-proof container.
  • The name and phone number of your veterinarian.
  • Current photos of your pet in case they get lost.
  • Pet beds, toys - if there's room.
  • Sturdy leashes, harnesses and or carriers to easily and safely move your pets.
