2010 Candidate Election Notice

CITY OF SCOTTSDALE
2010 CANDIDATE ELECTIONS NOTICE
AUGUST 24, 2010 PRIMARY ELECTION--CANCELLED
GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010

The Scottsdale City Charter authorizes the cancellation of a primary election if there are no more than two candidates for each vacancy.  On June 3, 2010, the Scottsdale City Council voted to cancel the August 24, 2010 Scottsdale Primary Election because there are only six candidates running for three Council vacancies.  All six candidates will advance to the November 2, 2010 General Election, where the top three vote getters will be elected to the Council.

To have their names appear on the ballots, candidates were required to file nomination papers and other nomination forms with the Scottsdale City Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2010.  Write-in candidates are not required to file nominating petitions, but must file all other nomination forms by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 23, 2010.

Scottsdale residents must be registered to vote by October 4, 2010 to be qualified to vote in the Scottsdale General Election.  Applications for early ballots for the Scottsdale General Election will be available to qualified City electors beginning Monday, June 7, 2010.  Official ballots will be available beginning Thursday, October 7, 2010.

The polling places used in the City of Scottsdale will be the polling places established by Maricopa County and used for conducting previous elections in the City of Scottsdale, if available.  The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
