Eco says: Be careful out there..
Improper use of and/or disposal of hazardous
materials can negatively impact everyone's personal health and safety as well as the
health of our environment. Hazardous waste averages 534 lbs. per person per year.
How much is that? Too much. Householders should have the same goal many environmentally
conscious businesses have - zero generation.
Ways to achieve zero generation are the same at home and at work:
Watch what you buy. Read labels. Choose the least toxic.
Think about the disposal requirements for the left over product
Plan ahead. Buy exact amount as needed, use it all immediately, don't
store it.
- Always look for newer, safer alternatives. Avoid product loyalty toward any hazardous
products
- If you must dispose, be sure to do it legally, use household hazardous waste collection
day events or take it to a facility licensed to handle the disposal
Remember:
"If the earth does grow inhospitable toward human presence it is
primarily because we have lost our sense of courtesy toward the earth and it's
inhabitants." Thomas Berry
