Eco says: Restoration is a process of renewal.

The purpose is to return something (both natural and built) to its original condition or state.  The best course of action is to avoid restoration by taking care and not causing the damage.

Examples of Urban restoration:

• Graffiti removal
• Landscape clean-up
• Public right-of-way repairs
• Property maintenance

Examples of Rural restoration:

• Scarred or burned land revegetated with native vegetation
• Removal of dumped materials
• Storm damage clean-up

Adopt-a-Highway:

(a national volunteer program in both rural and urban areas)

• Citizen volunteers remove litter along highways and City Streets
• In some areas, this program has been extended to the shores of rivers and lakes
