Town Hall

Visioning Downtown's Future

Downtown Plan Update Logo - Round
The City of Scottsdale, in conjunction with the AZ Town Hallnot a part of the city web site, held a series of Town Hall discussions focusing on the future of Downtown Scottsdale in Nov 2006. The Town Hall event was the kick-off for a comprehensive community process to update the Downtown Master Plan. Roughly 100 Scottsdale stakeholders, including residents, investors, and business owners, met to discuss what programs, services and facilities will be needed in downtown's future.

February 13 City Council Reviewed Arizona Town Hall Final Report and Area Plan Process

As the first step in an extensive public outreach effort, the Downtown Scottsdale Town Hall report and recommendations will serve as a baseline consensus to help guide the comprehensive update to Scottsdale's 1984 Downtown Plan. The Downtown Scottsdale Town Hall report and recommendations were formally presented to the Scottsdale Mayor and City Council on February 13, 2007.

Over the next year, as the Downtown Plan Update progresses, a variety of public outreach efforts such as public workshops, citizen group meetings and open houses will occur to ensure continued public input into the specifics of the plan update.

It is the City's hope that the Town Hall participants will continue to be a valuable part of this year-long process to update Scottsdale's Downtown Plan in order to guide continued future success for Downtown Scottsdale.

Next Steps

Residents will be invited to Workshops that will focus on land use, transportation and open spaces.  Among the recommendations: increase the amount of downtown open space, preserve individual districts, hold a bond to provide funding for improvements to art venues.

Staff will move forward with updating the Area Plans process as a part of the 2010 General Plan update.
