The Downtown Office invites residents and visitors to enjoy the wide array of local offerings. This week consider visiting the Saturday Old Town Farmer's Market, on Saturday mornings at the northwest of Brown and 2nd Street. Over the Summer make Scottsdale you place to STAYCATION and view the deals available when you SUMMER IN SCOTTSDALE. See what local residents, Tatum and Eric, have to say about Downtown Scottsdale.

TCardAs a part of "You Want It, We Got It" we encourage everyone to SHOP SCOTTSDALE through a new program - the "T" card shopping progam where local merchants offer discounts to "T" card holders. The cards will be available on the trolleys and in our Downtown Office at 4248 N. Craftsman Court, or call 480-312-7750 and we will mail a card to you. Enjoy the wonderfully diverse downtown and save money too. Read the Press Release and if you are a downtown business you can print your window placard.

2nd Saturday FREE Downtown Cultural Trolley Tours. The first monthly tour will take place on July 9. Attendees will be meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Town Farmer's Market parking lot on the northwest corner of Brown and 2nd Street. From there they will board the trolley and be provided with a two-hour guided tour of the Arts District, Hotel Valley Ho, and introduced to SouthBridge and the Waterfront areas. The tour will conclude at 12:30 p.m. and bring attendees back to the Old Town parking lot. Attendees will receive a free shopping bag with a downtown directory, gallery guide and a variety of coupons/discounts. Attendees will also be eligible to enter a drawing for a free dinner for two or one-night stay at a downtown hotel. Attendees are asked to RSVP to (480) 312-7750 or e-mail rujohnson@scottsdaleaz.gov by July 1 due to limited seating. These tours are being offered by the city of Scottsdale Downtown Office in partnership with Ultimate Art Tours.

THE FARMER'S MARKET GOES UNDERGROUND - The Old Town Farmer's Market has gone underground. During the summer months the market will be held on the underground level of the parking structure at the northwest corner of Brown and 2nd Street. The hours have changed to 8 am - 11 am. Bravo Bistro 4327 N Scottsdale Rd. established for 14 years in Downtown Scottsdale has begun a Lighter Fare Menu for the Summer Months. Featuring the regular menu items along with smaller portions and pricing to match.   • THURSDAYS THIS SUMMER JUST GOT EVEN BETTER AT THE SCOTTSDALE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART (SMOCA). In addition to the FREE admission that SMoCA provides all-day on Thursday (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.), the Museum will also be programming a variety of fun, free programs on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. this summer starting on May 28th. A range of activities will be offered including sketching in the galleries; humorous writing workshops; presentations by photographers & new media artists; and gallery talks led by curators & other art experts.   • SMOCA SUMMER THURSDAY NIGHT SCHEDULE:

    JULY 9 Artists on Artists: Rooted in the Real - A lively, experimental showcase of six documentary-based photographers and new media artists. Organized by Aaron Abbott and Chris Todd, both members of SMoCA’s Artists Advisory Committee. Stage 2 Theater.

    JULY 16 “Lineage: tracing generations of American photography.” Co-curator Claire C. Carter provides scholarly context for At the Crossroads of American Photography: Callahan, Siskind, Sommer. Stage 2 Theater.

    JULY 23 Sketching in the galleries. Museum visitors will explore works of art in Unexpected Wegman through directed activities. Bring a sketch pad and pencil.

  • ArtWalk is a FREE EVENT every Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. ArtWalkers can “chill out” along Main Street, Marshall Way, Stetson and Sixth Avenue and throughout the downtown Scottsdale Arts District which will be busy with artist demonstrations, gallery show openings, live music, prize drawings, delicious samples from great restaurants and more.   • Pony Express Mail Delivery Arrived in Downtown Scottsdale
  • Over 400 attended the arrival of the Hashknife Pony Express riders on Friday, January 30, 2009 - 12 noon at the “Passing the Legacy” sculpture located on the north side of the Marshall Way Bridge in Downtown Scottsdale. The Hashknife Pony Express ride is the oldest officially sanctioned Pony Express in the U.S. Beginning in historic Holbrook, the horseback mail route covers over 200 miles from the majestic Mogollon Rim through the wilderness of the Mazatzal range to Scottsdale where it kicks off the Scottsdale Jaycees' Parada del Sol celebration.   • The Parada del Sol, hosted by the Jaycees,

     marched, stomped, strutted, and paraded its way through Old Town Scottsdale on Saturday, February 21, 2009 to the delight of adults and children alike. This parade has the distinction of being known as the "World's Largest Horsedrawn Parade". The Parade route ran north up Scottsdale Road from Oak to Indian School. With close to 150 parade entries this year, this was an event to be experienced. View a slideshow of this year's event.
  • Spring Training in Scottsdale - The 2009 spring training season saw a record 177,995 fans at Scottsdale Stadium, ranking 2nd in attendance behind the Chicago Cubs. The Stadium played host to 21 San Francisco Giants home games including 1 against Team Japan during the World Baseball Classic. Overall, the Cactus League recorded over 1.5 million fans bringing in an estimated $359 million to the state of Arizona.
