Mustang Transit Center
The City of Scottsdale recently completed construction of several transportation improvements along the 90th Street corridor between Shea Boulevard and Mountain View Road. The improvements include new transit amenities, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, a new signal and a roundabout. The project connects three existing bus routes and one future route as well as provide convenient, comfortable access for all travel modes to Mustang Library, Scottsdale Healthcare, and other nearby retail and commercial centers.
The 90th Street and Shea Boulevard area supports more than 24,000 jobs within a half mile radius and is home to a number of key activity centers: a hospital, medical offices, multiple shopping centers, restaurants, a library, and offices. Together, these activity centers generate transit use by employees, area residents, and visitors.
The on-street improvements are coupled with several planned route improvements:
A new airpark trolley route connecting the 90th Street and Shea Boulevard area with the Scottsdale Park and Ride located at Thunderbird and Scottsdale Roads
Improved service on Routes 80 (Shea Blvd.); Route 81 (Hayden Rd.); and Route 514 Scottsdale Express and
Provide trolley service to the Via Linda Senior Center and surrounding areas
On-Street Transit Amenities:
Bus bays with enhanced access for flexible routing options; new transit shelters that provide bicycle parking, trash receptacles; enhanced shade and seating options; and public art.
Improved access for customers of the shopping center, the library, and the hospital; a new roundabout on 90th St. at Mustang Library to improve access, safety and capacity; and a new traffic signal on 90th Street at the main Scottsdale Healthcare driveway.
Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements:
New pedestrian crossings on 90th St. for transit, library, hospital and shopping center customers; improved connections to the Indian Bend Wash Path; and bike lanes on 90th Street from Mountain View Road to Shea Boulevard; with all improvements conforming to accessibility guidelines.
Integrated Public Art:
Mary Lucking is an Arizona artist who specializes in transportation facilities. Her projects include art incorporated into urban and rural walking and biking trails, public transit stations, college campuses and neighborhood parks. The current art direction resulted from citizen meetings with the artist in September 2013.
The project was constructed in 2 phases and is now complete with the exception of a few minor modifications. Additional construction work will take place on the bus bay located at the northwest corner of the roundabout in January 2018. Construction of all project elements is expected to be complete in March 2018.
The proposed improvements were presented to the community and went thought the Transportation Commission and Development Review Board Hearing process. Please review the public presentation to view proposed plans.
