Pedicab Ordinance (Proposed)

The City of Scottsdale currently does not have an ordinance regulating pedicabs.  The public and pedicab operators and owners have requested the city create a proposed ordinance.  The purpose is to enhance the safety of pedicab operators, their passengers, pedestrians, and others as they may come in contact with the pedicabs.

We appreciate your feedback.  Based on your input, we have revised the proposed ordinance to include your suggestions, which include:

  • Adding more reflectors to pedicabs
  • Changing size of required reflector tape
  • Not requiring operators to wear safety vests
  • Not requiring passengers to wear seat belts
  • Modifying the language regarding the braking system
  • Adding prohibition against general obstruction of traffic, particularly on crosswalks
  • Adding prohibition against passengers getting on and off a moving pedicab
  • Clarifying prohibition against all pedicabs on closed streets and sidewalks
