Mac Information for Viewing Windows Video Files
Macintosh (Mac) computers do not have the proper video formats, or codecs, built into them by default. These codecs must be installed to view the video. Fortunately, there is a free product, called Flip4Mac by Telestream, which allows a Mac to view Windows Video formats (called WMV files).
Once Flip4Mac has been downloaded and installed, you should be able to view the video on your Mac.
Directions:
ln Safari, navigate to the following web link:
www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
Click on the "Get Player Free" icon to link to the download site.
It appears this links to a "Windows Download" site, but don't be alarmed. This is not a Microsoft product.
Click on the link for the free download. This will take you to yet another site where the actual program is located. Click on the "Download" button. You will notice the download file is actually a "dmg" package, which is strictly a Mac file type.
Once the program has downloaded, double-click the downloaded file to start the installer. Follow the on screen instructions to install the codec package. If you are offered the options to "Upgrade" or "Purchase the product", ignore those options. The default installation loads the free portion of the product, which is all you need.
After installing the program, make sure you completely close Safari, with a "Command-Q," and restart Safari before attempting to view the videos. This allows Safari to load the "codecs" into its browser. Otherwise, the video may not play correctly.
Once the program is installed, and Safari is running, simply navigate to the City Website and view the video.
