Council Goals
The Scottsdale City Council adopted the following objectives on February 11, 2002:
- Build on prior studies and public input
- Develop canal corridor connections
- Create a focal point destination attraction
- Promote Arizona canal history and Scottsdale quality of life
- Provide stimulus for revitalization
- Improve canal banks to accommodate development of adjacent properties
Canal Bank improvements will reflect the unique character of Scottsdale and include gathering spaces, public art, landmarks and local points
Connections and Crossings
- Extend Marshall Way south across canal to 6th Ave./Stetson - transit bridge
- Two pedestrian bridges
- One designer for all bridges
- Maintain Sun Circle Trail
Utilities
- Address/correct capacity issues with sewer, drainage and electricity
- Re-locate or underground power lines in Canal Bank corridor
- Address future needs of adjacent development
Adjoining Development
- Integrate adjacent land uses & ease scale transitions
- Evaluate additional parking needs locations and costs
- Enhance maintenance (program & budget) to assure that the Canal Bank is perceived as an important community amenity
