Activities Requiring an Encroachment Permit
Encroachment permits are necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public. They are required for any construction activity in a public right-of-way, including easements where the city has an interest, such as Natural Area Open Space (NAOS) or drainage easements. Work initiated without an Encroachment permit will be fined an amount equal to double the permit fee.
Permit Expiration & Renewal
Improvement plan approvals are valid for a period of 6 months. An Encroachment Permit must be issued within this period or the plan approval expires. Expired plans must be re-submitted for approval, a full fee must be paid (calculated at the current fee schedule), and shall be subject to current standards and requirements. Once an Encroachment Permit is issued, an inspection must be obtained within 6 months, or the permit will expire. Each successive inspection must occur within 6 months of the previous inspection, or the permit will expire.
