Public and Private Utility Permit/City Review Required
A permit is required for all utility work, public and private, that occurs within the city's ROW or within public utility easements.
City Review Process:
- Complete a permit application form (pdf/51kb/1p) or call Field Engineering at (480) 312-5771
- Submit:
- completed permit application
- three sets of plans
- plan review fee of $74.00 to Inspection Services located on the second floor at 9191 East San Salvador Drive, Scottsdale, AZ. 85258.
- Upon receiving the application and appropriate drawings, city staff will log the request into the city's Community Development System and route the documents for technical review.
- This review includes, but is not limited to:
- checking for compliance with construction standards
- approving alignments
- verifying that the work is in the public right-of-way or public utility easement
- checking for conflicts
- reviewing traffic impacts
- verifying that all city requirements have been met and incorporated into the plans
Encroachment Permit:
Once the utility plans have been approved the applicant will be notified to pick up the Encroachment Utility Permit. A base fee of $152.00 plus any itemized or trenching fees will be charged for the permit. For a listing of fees visit the Application, Permit and Water Development fees website.
A Certificate of Insurance is required prior to obtaining an Encroachment Permit. The certificate must be in the amount of $1,000,000 (one million dollars). The City of Scottsdale must be named as "Additionally Insured". For more information call Inspection Services at (480) 312-2500.
Additionally the permit holder must have a current Arizona contractor's license. Permits are issued for a specified time frame based on the estimated length of the project construction.
