Sewer Roaches
The City of Scottsdale maintains a very aggressive sewer roach control program that is designed to eliminate the sanitary sewer system as a breeding ground for sewer roaches.Water and Wastewater Operations controls sewer roaches by spraying the walls of each City maintained sewer manhole with a chemical called Insecta. The chemical is mixed with latex paint. When sewer roaches travel across the paint, they come in contact with the chemical. Each treatment is effective for up to three years. However, to assure citizens that Scottsdale is committed to preventing sewer roaches, each manhole in the City is treated every other year.
Sewer Roach Treatment Schedule:
In the Spring of 2009 Water Operations treated 13,041 sewer manholes between Indian Bend Road & Pinnacle Peak Road.
In the Spring of 2008 Water Operations treated 5,540 sewer manholes between McKellips Road & Indian Bend Road. We also treated 8,094 manholes between Pinnacle Peak Road & the Northern Boundary of the City.
The most effective way to control the roach population is for each resident to maintain a pest control program for his/her own property.
