Attractive Xeriscape starts with planning and design. Make a list of features you want in a landscape:

Spiral gardens offer planting niches with pockets of shade and moisture between rocks. Plants above also shade those below. Place larger rocks at the bottom, smaller towards the top, adding soil to build up the spiral one to two feet high at its center. Transplant species requiring good drainage higher on the spiral and those benefiting from extra moisture at the base, where water settles.
