Written Test Information for Police Officer Testing

Scottsdale Police Department study guides are not available for any part of the written test.  However, the types of tests administered include:

  

1. Standardized Police Officer Test

Applicants are given a Standardized Police Officer Study guide to read for 25 minutes. The study guide is then collected and applicants are given the Standardized Police Officer Test. This test consists of 100 questions and applicants are allotted 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete this test. The applicant must achieve a 70 correct or better test score to continue to the next test. This test measures the applicant’s abilities to:

  • Remember details
  • Verbal abilities
  • Learn and apply police information
  • Use judgment and logic
  • Follow directions

2. Spelling Test

Applicants are given 25 basic words that would be used in law enforcement. This test is not pass/fail; results are evaluated by the recruitment team.

 

3. Report Writing Test

Applicants view a scenario and are allowed to take written notes. After applicant's watch the scenario, they are given 30 minutes to write a report. The report will receive a grade of A, B, C or D based on the following:

  • Listening skills
  • Written communication skills
  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Ability to document information in a clear and concise manner
  • Neatness
