Fitness Tips: 1.5 Mile Run and Times

1.5 Mile Run:

This test is conducted on our driving training track which is an asphalt surface. The applicants will run 2 1/2 laps around the track, equivalent to 1.5 miles. Walking or stopping during the run will result in a failure of the physical agility portion of the testing process.

1.5 Mile Times:
The chart seen below is for the split times needed in the 1.5 mile run to achieve the goal you set. If you set a goal of 15:00 and run each lap at 2:30 you would make the cut off. It is imperative to remember however that the typical person will start out fast and slow down during the run. For this reason if you train to do a 2:30 lap at the start you will ultimately fail due to being unprepared to keep that up for six laps. The training distances for this run should be up to 5 miles which is the long distance most often run at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy ( ALEA). You should also test yourself in the mile and a half at least once every two weeks to ensure you are improving. ALEA is looking for recruits to come to the academy running a minimum of a 13:30 in the 1.5 mile. Slower than this will put you on a remedial (extra) fitness plan, this is done on your time before or after the regular academy day.
