The Scottsdale Police Department is announcing that an arrest has been made in the fatal hit and run collision that killed Daniel Pollack in the early morning hours of 9/11/2011. The suspect, CRISTINO TORRES-ROMERO (DOB 08/29/1978), a Tempe resident, was arrested this afternoon by Scottsdale police detectives.
The break in this case came on Tuesday afternoon, when an anonymous tip was received by Detective Roger Paliwoda, the lead case agent. Since that time, our vehicle crimes detectives have worked tirelessly to follow up on the information, positively identify and locate the suspect. Earlier today, the suspect and vehicle were located at the suspect’s residence in Tempe. He was arrested without incident and the truck was impounded as evidence. The truck, a Ford F150 pickup, showed evidence consistent with the damage that would have been caused when Daniel Pollack was killed.
During the interview of Torres-Romero, he admitted to fleeing the scene after striking the victim on Hayden Road north of Thomas.
Currently Torres-Romero is in the Scottsdale City Jail and being held on one felony count of Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Collision. The case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney for prosecution.
