From December of 2012 through the beginning of February, 2013, ten residential burglaries have taken place in the area between Shea Blvd and Mountain View Road from 108th Street to 128th Street. All burglaries took place where entry was made from the rear yard and no one was home. Once the suspect(s) were inside of the backyard they entered the home by smashing a rear window or by opening an unlocked door (two occasions). The suspect(s) have been targeting items mainly from the master bedroom. Homes are likely being watched to ensure that the resident has left prior to the break in taking place.
Some helpful safety tips are:
Don’t leave valuable jewelry out in plain view.
Put valuables in a safe.
Ensure that an existing home alarm is armed.
Install motion lights in the front and rear yards.
Lock gates to the rear yard.
Put lights on timers to give the illusion that someone is home.
Join a neighborhood watch and work proactively with neighbors to report suspicious activity.
