Public Safety Plan Ordinance Security Training

Event date: Wednesday, October 23, 2013, from 3:11 PM to 3:11 PM

Police reviewing plans, providing training as part of Public Safety Plan Ordinance

Scottsdale Police are reviewing public safety plans and conducting classes as part of new bar and restaurant security measures approved earlier this year by the City Council.

The measures are designed to promote the general health, safety and welfare of our community by requiring certain types of businesses – mostly bars – to file, follow and keep current a public safety plan. The ordinance went into effect Oct. 10.

The new ordinance applies to businesses that require age verification for admittance, provide live entertainment or a DJ. More details and a copy of the ordinance are available at: www.scottsdaleaz.gov/codes/publicsafetyplan.

The Police Department is providing weekly security classes for applicable business employees during the next 90 days. The plan is to have about 1,200 participants complete the program during that timeframe.

Registration for the security classes is available at:

Training classes will be offered once a month after the initial 90-day introductory period. All businesses are required to submit their public safety plans to the Police Department during this 90-day window.

Police will begin inspecting businesses to ensure compliance with the new ordinance as early as January.
