It is anticipated that the suspect will be released from the hospital later on 04/23/13 and will be booked directly into County Jail on multiple counts of Child Abuse, Indecent Exposure, Trespassing, and Endangerment.
Toxicology results on the child were positive for methamphetamines.
On 04/21/13 at 10:30 pm SPD was called to a situation at Scottsdale and McDowell Road where a female was running in the traffic way with a small child. When we arrived we contacted the 25 year old female who was wearing only a shirt and no other clothing. She had some blood on her body and was speaking incoherently about a fight she was involved in that took place earlier in the west valley. The child, her 3 year old son, was wearing pajama pants and had some blood on him also. Medics were called and transported the female to Osborn to treat cuts to her body and also for impairment due to methamphetamines. The child was transported to Maricopa Medical Center where he received treatment to his leg for a severe laceration. He will be turned over to Child Protective Services when he is discharged.
Officers at the scene were able to trace the blood trail back to a chain link fence just west of Scottsdale and McDowell that was topped with barbed wire. The child’s shirt was still attached to the top of the fence. It appeared that the female attempted to climb over the fence with the child which is where the injuries to them likely occurred. Booking and/or charges for the female are pending her release from the hospital as detectives continue to investigate.
Nothing further at this time.
