On 03/30/12 SPD was called to Amtrust Bank located at 8764 E. Shea Blvd in reference to an individual who came in to the bank and asked for local directions. As he did this he displayed a badge and stated that he was a Chandler Police Officer. The subject also had a gun on his hip in a holster. The teller thought the badge was a fake and called after the subject left, giving a description of his vehicle and the direction of travel.
Officers found his tan Nissan at 7100 E. Shea and conducted a traffic stop. The subject identified himself to officers by stating that he was a Chandler Police Officer and showed the fake badge. The subject was taken into custody where he finally admitted to not being an officer but that he shows the badge to “get respect” when he deals with people. During a search of his vehicle two pellet type hand guns were recovered.
The subject was arrested for Impersonating a Police Officer and Driving on a Suspended License.
