Update 04/26/12:

On 04/24/12 SPD received a tip from a citizen about the location of the victim’s vehicle after it was shown by the media. Detectives were able to conduct surveillance on the vehicle in an apartment complex in the 2500 block of West Georgia in Phoenix.

On 04/25/12 at 1:00 pm an individual went to the parked vehicle, entered it and drove it westbound on Georgia and parked it on the south side of the street west of 27th Avenue. After the suspect exited the vehicle he was approached by detectives and fled on foot. As he ran he threw personal property including the victim’s car keys and a backpack. After a brief struggle the suspect was apprehended in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. A subsequent search of the backpack revealed a handgun believed to possibly be the murder weapon.

The relationship between the victim and suspect along with the motive for the crime are part of the ongoing investigation.

The suspect was booked on multiple counts including 1st Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Auto Theft, Aggravated Assault on an Officer, and Resisting Arrest.
