Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

Event date: Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 11:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Scottsdale is fortunate to have some great malls and shopping venues that have geared up for a busy holiday shopping season. As you head out to get those great holiday deals, the Scottsdale Police department would like to remind everyone of the basic safety tips that will help keep you and your belongings safe while you’re out bargain hunting.

*When you leave your car, make sure you lock it and don’t leave anything of value in the car that may tempt a thief.

*While you are coming from or going to your car, be aware of your surroundings.

*Don’t let any stranger approach you unexpectedly.

*If you have to leave items you have purchased in your car, put them in the trunk or out of view. Keep a close eye on your valuables.

*Don’t leave your purse, bag or any other packages unattended, even for a brief moment.

We encourage everyone to help watch out for your fellow shoppers and report any suspicious items or activity to the police department. Our officers are constantly observing conditions that don’t look right but we depend on the community as additional eyes and ears to assist us. If you believe you are seeing an unsafe situation or item, remain calm, leave the area, and contact police immediately.

The police will be out in full force this holiday season because we know that would-be criminals are out there too. Because of this, we want everyone to pause before going out shopping to remember to stay safe first and enjoy the shopping second.
