Details:

On Sunday at 2:00 PM SPD arrested four individuals at the Aloft Hotel in Tempe for Fraud Schemes after they sold fake BCS Championship Game tickets to the victim. The details of the incident are as follows:

On Sunday at about 10:00 AM the victim and his adult son who were in town from Texas, agreed to meet an individual at the Marriot Hotel near 3rd Avenue and Scottsdale Road in order to purchase two tickets to the game. The meeting was scheduled after the victim placed an advertisement online looking for tickets. The suspect produced two tickets while meeting at the hotel that appeared legitimate to the victim. The victim purchased the tickets and left the hotel.

Shortly after leaving the hotel the victim decided to contact the Fiesta Bowl office to check the validity of the tickets and was informed that the tickets were fraudulent based on information provided and was instructed to contact SPD. Prior to contacting the police the victim called the suspect back to ask for additional tickets and a new meeting was scheduled for the Tempe hotel.

Tempe PD arrived and found the suspect and his accomplices in the parking lot of the hotel where they were detained. SPD investigated and found an additional 17 tickets along with $4,000 in cash in the suspects’ possession. All four were booked on counts of Fraud Schemes and Possession of Forged Instruments.
