On 2/28/11 SPD was called to a 4 vehicle fatal traffic collision at 60th Street and Cactus at about 2:00 PM.
Original witness statements along with the final resting positions of all vehicles involved, led investigators to believe that a gray Kia sedan was westbound on Cactus when it crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic just east of 60th Street. It was believed that the Kia collided head on with a beige Toyota sedan then struck a silver Toyota SUV and finally a silver Pontiac sedan. After investigation was concluded at the scene it was determined that the beige Toyota sedan was actually driving westbound and the Kia was driving eastbound. The Toyota crossed the center lane and struck the Kia first then the other two vehicles.
All vehicles were occupied by only a driver. The Toyota SUV was driven by a female. She was transported to JCL with non-life threatening injuries. The Pontiac was driven by a female who was uninjured.
The drivers of the Kia and the Toyota sedan were both driven by males not wearing their seat belts. The Kia driver was taken to JCL where he was pronounced dead. The Toyota driver was taken to SHC where he was pronounced dead. The roadway was closed for five hours.
Alcohol nor speed appear to be factors.
