Don't Fall for the Phone Scam

Event date: Thursday, February 27, 2014, from 10:45 AM to 10:45 AM

PHONE SCAM Impersonating a police or court officer

Scottsdale Police are alerting citizens about an officer impersonation phone scam. The callers are phoning citizens claiming to be a Scottsdale police officer, court officer or other agency officer and demanding a fine be paid for a warrant, photo-radar ticket or other court matter.  The scammers asks the citizen to purchase a “Green-dot” card or other financial tool to "pay the fine" and give the card number or financial information to the "officer".  This or anything like this is a thief's attempt to separate you from your hard earned money. It should be reported to the police department immediately at 480-312-5000.

You need to know, police or court officers will never phone any citizen asking for payment of any kind. In addition, you should never provide any personal or financial information to any caller or unsolicited contact. If you are in doubt, please contact the agency the caller is claiming to represent to confirm who it is.
