Details:

A homeowner came home and found he had interrupted burglars inside his home in the 6800 block of E. Vernon Ave. He chased the two male suspects through the alley west. After a about a hundred feet of chasing the suspect in the alley, one of the suspects turned and pointed a handgun at the victim (homeowner). He backed off and phoned 911. The two suspects continued fleeing on foot and a short time later, they attempted to steal a car at gunpoint from two residents in the 6700 block of E. Vernon Ave. They were unsuccessful in their attempts and continued their flight on foot. Another resident called 911 after seeing the two suspects attempt to get in her back yard. She directed officers to the suspects, who had crossed to the west side of the canal at 6600 E. Oak St. The suspects split up, one being contacted and arrested in the 2200 block of 64th Street and the other was located and arrested in the 6600 block of E, Cambridge. Both suspects were positively identified by witnesses and victims. Property stolen from the homeowner was recovered from the suspects’ person and at various locations from the victim’s residence to where they were caught by officers. The gun used to threaten the victims, was stolen during the burglary and found near where (S) Berckemeyer was arrested.

Both suspects were booked and held on charges of Burglary and Felony Assault.
