SPD received notification of a business alarm at 8787 N. Scottsdale Road at 3:30 AM. The first officer to arrive in the area, saw a male subject run from the property, however, the officer was not able to keep the suspect in sight. The officer determined that there were 2 businesses at this location that had signs of a break-in. Other officer tried to locate the subject who was seen running, but he was not located.
Officers located a blue Chevrolet pickup truck that was parked near where the suspect was last seen running. Believing the truck belonged to the suspect in the break-ins, officers in unmarked cars set up surveillance. Just before 6 AM, a male was seen getting into the truck, which let the area east on Doubletree Ranch Road.
Officers followed and saw the truck drive into the neighborhood near Via Linda and Via De Ventura. The driver abandoned the truck in the 8200 block of Del Capitan Drive. Officers began searching for the suspect and called for air support from DPS. When the DPS helicopter came overhead, they spotted the suspect on the roof of a house on Del Capitan Drive. Officers on the ground ordered the suspect to come off the roof and after a few minutes, he climbed down a ladder and was arrested for trespassing.
The suspect was interviewed and admitted to breaking into two businesses at 8787 N. Scottsdale Road. He is being held in custody on numerous felony charges for burglary and trespassing. |
